For years, Pokemon has been quite a few spin off games. Most feel like Nintendo is just squeezing the cash cow franchises and mediocre at best. If you have not tired of "should catch them all", which if you read this review I'm guessing you have not, you can enjoy this title. The first game in Japan called Nobunaga's Ambition + Pokemon and developed by Koei. Many may not be familiar with the NES and SNES game Nobunaga's Ambition or Koei title. For those familiar with them, you'll see some of the elements in this game. Now the game itself was not your standard Pokemon. You do not walk around the capture Pokemon with Pokeballs. You travel by clicking on different locations on the map. Also not changed by the battle, they are more like Final Fantasy Tactics where you move around the battlefield. While this is a big change for the series, it is done in a way that is easily accessible. It is intended as an entry level RPG strategy. Fans of the series will be pleased to know that this type of Pokemon still play a big role in being effective in combat. Also missing is the leveling XP, replaced with the "Bonds". Bonds is how well you interact with Pokemon and warlords, and warlords each have a Pokemon that you have to find the perfect fit for the best use. In each kingdom you can only have six warlords, so you have to manage where you left them, and you can set them to perform different tasks. Out of Nobunaga who apparently also trying to take over the kingdom as well so you should make sure you have adequate strength in conquering your empire so you do not lose them. The goal of the game is to take over all the 17 kingdoms that legendary Pokemon that created the land will reveal himself. After playing about 5 hours I would say the system works pretty well. Battles are fun and most only last a few minutes or less to complete. That said if you are a fan of Pokemon or even if you are just a fan of strategy RPG game is definitely worth a try.
